    Raw Diet: Day 1 & 2

I followed my friends Hiimrawn and ShayCarl into the unknown world of eating right. My diet normally consists of carbohydrates, tacos, more carbohydrates, and beer. So this is a pretty big step for me. I’m not really looking to lose weight, although I will record it, I’m just trying to be a healthy guy. This internet thing has caused me to shortcut a lot of the things (like diet) that used to take precedence. Well, diet never really took precedence, I just never had to worry about looking out of shape when I was younger. Now at 26, things are different. So, I thought maybe I would document the journey for educational and motivational reasons.

If you don’t know what a raw diet consists of, it’s pretty simple.

    From Wikipedia:

aw foodism (or rawism) is a lifestyle promoting the consumption of un-cooked, un-processed, and often organic foods as a large percentage of the diet. Raw foodists typically believe that the greater the percentage of raw food in the diet, the greater the health benefits. Raw foodism or a raw diet is usually equated with raw veganism in which only raw plant foods are eaten,[1] but other raw foodists emphasize raw meat and other raw animal products.[2] Depending on the type of lifestyle and results desired, raw food diets may include a selection of raw fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds (including sprouted whole grains such as gaba rice), eggs, fish (such as sashimi), meat (such as carpaccio), and non-pasteurized/non-homogenized dairy products (such as raw milk, raw milk cheese, and raw milk yogurt). Raw foodists can be divided between those that advocate raw vegetarianism or raw veganism, those that advocate a raw omnivorous diet, and those that advocate a diet of only raw animal foods (carnivorous).

If you decide to pull the trigger and go raw, DO NOT use my blog as a resource. I literally have no idea what I’m doing. But there are a few websites that offer some recipes and some education about the subject that are worth checking out.

If you go raw, these are must haves.

Juicer:  Juicing has probably accounted for half of what I’ve been eating/drinking these last 2 days. If you can afford one or know someone who has one, it will make the diet much more enjoyable.

Blender: Good for vegetables/fruits that aren’t good for juicers like avocados, bananas and strawberries.

    Day 1:

    Weight: 170

Unfortunately for me, I started the diet in the middle of a cold. Or maybe that’s fortunate. I’ve had a headache all day but it’s hard to pinpoint if it’s the lack of the caffeine that’s usually present or the sickness. Either way, hello Advil.

    BREAKFAST:

In the morning I juiced an orange, apple, carrot and celery. All one each. It was surprisingly tasty. Before I left for work I ate an orange.

    Day 1

    LUNCH:

    At work I had:

    - 1 carrot

    - 2 celery stalks

    - handful of almonds

    - handful of sunflower seeds

    - persian cucumber

    - handful of grape tomatoes.

I was basically grazing the whole time at work. Everything was pretty bland but hey, that’s what I signed up for.  But by the time I left I was already starving for dinner.

    DINNER:

I was less than a day in at this point and ready to eat my neighbors cat for it’s meat. Luckily I remembered Nicki made a kick ass salad dressing just for me and it was sitting in the fridge. No cat tonight. Here’s what I prepare:

    - Salad consisting of lettuce, spinach, carrots, tomatoes, cucumber, bell pepper, sunflower seeds, quinoa, in a apple cider vinegar/garlic/sun dried tomato dressing. It was good.

    - I also made a quick side dish of half a cucumber and bell pepper that was left over from the salad. I put some lemon and sea salt and called it an “apet-teaser.”

    - For dessert I had a handful of trailmix and watermelon.

    Day 1 dinner

Day one in the bag. No big deal. So you eat fruit and vegetables all day. Anyone can do that. Well, easier said than done.

    ______________________________________________________________________________________

    DAY 2:

    Weight: 167.5

I woke up feeling surprisingly good despite being sick still. Could the diet already be working? Maybe. I’ve lost 2.5 lbs so far. But that could be because of the cold. But, if you look at day 1, I ate A LOT of food. Anywho, I digress.

    BREAKFAST:

For breakfast I juiced a WHOLE pineapple, 2 apples, and orange, and a carrot. This made about 3 cups. I drank it all.  At this rate I may need a second job to pay for all the food I’m consuming. I feel like a horde of locusts devouring anything in my way.

    LUNCH:

I made a nice little fruit salad with:

    - watermelon

    - cantelope

    - raspberries

    - blueberries

    - strawberries

    - I also chopped up a bell pepper as a side snack.

    Day 2

    DINNER:

This was Nicki’s and I’s first meal together since we started the diet yesterday. So we made it special. We had:

    - Japanese Seaweed salad. There is a Asian grocer near us that stocks this stuff ready to eat and as good as it would be at any sushi restaurant. A little pricey but totally worth it. Besides making your poop green, it’s got a lot of healthy stuff in it. I don’t know what, but I know it’s in there.

    - Guacamole. We used cucumber and tomato slices to dip. We also found flax seed crackers at Whole Foods that were really tasty that worked as tortilla chips. Bummer is they’re super expensive.

    - For drinks we juiced 4 apples, 4 carrots, 4 celery stalks, kale, cranberries, and an orange to make a very green looking drink. Delish.

    Day 2 dinner

Day 2 in the bag. I’m still sick, but feel good knowing EVERYTHING I have eaten has been healthy. Preparing food has been the biggest hurdle. I stayed home from work today but if I had gone in, eating everything I did today would have been a struggle. We’ll see if I can keep it up.

    See ya tomorrow!

its sooo good and has tons of recipes that are actual food and not just salads and shit lol. plus tons of juices and everything. i want to try a raw diet but its hard since im 16 and it would be $$$$ for my parents to buy completely diff foods for me

      Joseph

great job so far Kassem! it’s about time you started going healthy, how long have you lived in Santa Monica?! your neighbors must have kept wondering why the mexican next door never ate the fruit he was selling.

      Lokey

If you’ve got the time you gotta try a “raw pasta” recipe. Cold it takes some getting used to, but if the veggies are at room temperature…it’s pretty damn good.

      Azul

      Kassemg, it’s all a trick…once Nicki gets hotter, she’ll dump u.

      RaeLynn

hey, thanks for sharing those websites. They were really helpful! Good luck!

Hey Kassem, it seems like you’re not getting a lot of attention on your diet, so I felt like I should give you a virtual pat on the back.

      *pat*

      There you go.

      Karen

I like how losing weight and the looks isn’t a big thing for you, but the healthiness is. Keep going Kassem ! :D
But something I’m wondering, is this going to go on for your whole life? Or just for 20 days…? Kind of like Shay?

It’s nice to find websites with information and thanks for the share that you have given.

      Hey Kassem,

Good for you!! There is a lot to learn about vegetarianism, but once you settle into it, it’s really not that hard and you’ll be a healthier person for it!!
